How to Rock Sorority Recruitment

It's that time of year again, sorority spring recruitment. For many, it's a time of excitement and business. And for others, it's a time of anxiety and stress. Whichever category you fit into, you can benefit from these five ways to rock sorority recruitment and get the bid card of your dreams.

1. Be Yourself
This is the most important thing to remember. You are looking to join a sisterhood of young women who will likely spend the majority of the next four years with you. These girls will see you at your best and at your worst. Wouldn't you rather know you can relate and feel supported by the sisters in your sorority, instead of knowing that they will just take cute Instagram pictures with you? You will find a group of women who love and support the real you, not just the one you put on social media.

2. Stay Open-Minded
Before you even start the recruitment process you may think you know which chapter is perfect for you. You may be correct and get a bid from that sorority, but you may also meet tons of other amazing sisters or the sisters of your first choice don't think you are the right fit. Either way, you want to keep an open mind so you don't get overwhelmed with the feeling you belong somewhere else or rejected because you didn't get a bid from the "right" sorority. Remember the whole purpose of going through the recruitment process is to find your home in Greek Life.

3. Look the Part
While sororities aren't all about how you look, you still need to dress to impress. Each round will have a different feel. If your school has Rho Gammas or recruitment counselors they will help you determine how fancy you should dress for each round. If you don't have Rho Gammas at your disposal, the general rule is that each round you should dress progressively nicer, starting more casual and ending the most formal. While the way you are dressed isn't the most important thing about recruitment, the sisters will be dressed up and you might feel a little out of place if you aren't as well.

4. Find Your Home
Your sorority sisters really will feel like family and you want to find the chapter you can call home. Don't try to fit in with girls who don't make you feel good about yourself and your goals. Look for girls that think the same way you do and have the same values as you. You want to feel comfortable with your sorority so don't try to be someone you aren't because you won't feel at home in the end.

5. Don't Stress
This is my last tip but it certainly isn't my least. No matter what happens you will find where you are meant to be. You may feel uncertain at first but everything will work out. The recruitment process is meant to be a fun and exciting time, you don't want to waste it worrying about what might happen. You will find your sisters and your home away from home. Just get out there and have fun because you are only a PNM once!

  1. I couldn't agree more with these tips. As a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and a former Rho Gamma, the number one thing I would say to a new member is to relax and stay-open minded. Many girls are concerned about getting into a specific sorority and end up ruining the experience for their-selves because they just write off all the other sororities. Going through recruitment is such a fun experience by itself because you meet so many new individuals and are making friends along the way. Some of my best friends were made when I was going through recruitment. One other tip I would add to your list is do not dismiss a sorority because you had one bad conversation at a round. Look more at the sorority as a whole and how they make you feel. This will help you to find where your home in Greek life.
