The Internet's WWIII Epidemic

After the bombing in Iran, every millennial and Gen Z social media platform exploded with memes about World War Three and the draft. While these memes are entertaining, they also show the extreme influence social media has on our society. While there was no formal declaration of war and no announcement of the draft declared, there was still pandemonium over the drafts and the concept of World War Three. This reaction goes to show the great impact social media has over our society.

The younger generation uses comedy and humor to cope with issues they feel. They fear what could happen and they use jokes to handle the pressure of a world war. These memes while very entertaining show the difference between the different generations. When threatened with war in the past, there were physical protests. Instead of reaching out to government leaders directly with concerns, social media users turned to jokes about a possible war to cope with the problems they are facing.

This recent epidemic shows a lot of information on how social media is impacting how people view and understand their world. Our society is very rapidly becoming an online society and faces their issues behind a computer screen rather than in person.
